The costs of the Civil War is compared to the costs of previous wars. Although extremely expensive and will raise taxes, the editors feels it is not too high a price to pay for freedom and liberty for our country.

Abstract

This article compares the cost of this war to the costs of previous wars. At a cost of "upwards of $2,000,000 per day" and a war debt so far over "two thousand millions," it is, in the opinion of the writer of the Phrenological Journal and the editor of the Puget Sound Herald, not too high a price to pay for freedom, liberty, peace, etc., for our country.
