The Walla Walla Statesman publishes without comment the news that men arrested under McDowell's order criminalizing rejoicing at Lincoln's assassination, have taken the oath of allegiance and been freed after trial. These three or four dozen men had come from a variety of towns in California, and some had been held in prison at Alcatraz. Some of them are termed "secessionists."
Abstract
